As cold as it certainly is atop any mountain, two of my Sherpa brothers have proven its not quite as cold as we think. One broke a Guiness World Record staying atop Everest with no shirt on for minutes, and my other friend climbed in his monk attire. I wear the warmest highest quality gear available.

As Lead Gide I would procure the oxygen tanks, making sure they were authentic. Sherpa do not use oxygen, so as to have extra for a client facing emergancy, we sell extra tanks for cash after a climb. 

Sherpa means ཤར SHAR ('EAST') པ PA ('PEOPLE'), it is the tribal name of those who arrived to the high mountins Nepal 500 years ago. Earning world-wide respect, Sherpa are known as brave, compassionate, adapt leaders, and yes, sometimes porters for their Sherpa brothers guiding expeditions. 

Our tribe is Ningmapa clan, which is also the type of Buddhism practiced. Pasang is a blood bought Born Again Christian, follower of the LORD Jesus Christ.

Nepal is a caste system society much like India in culture and religion. Majority Hindu, Buddhists are only in the mountainous and remote regions. Dal baht dinners served daily, vegetable carts on the road for dinner ingredients, ricksaw bicycle taxis and motorbikes fill the chaotic dusty streets. 

Pasang attended the first school in the region, established by Edmond Hillary. Until 2009, light came from kerosene lamps and bamboo torches. Pasang assisted Italian engineers in building a dam facilitating hydro-electric power supply to 7 villages. Structures are built of sold stone with high quality wood work inside. Sherpani run little shops and hotels in family businesses.

Sherpa salt butter tea, "Sue Chaw" is one of our more well know foods. Sherpa farm potatos on terraced hillsides, grind corn meal in our hydro-powered stone mill, and make yak butter seasonally.
